Grapple

1st June 2011

To improve its Sling Rating training and provide students with realistic scenarios, Heli-Hire has purchased a remote controlled grapple.

It is light enough to be used by either of the two R22 training helicopters, and hones student ability to work with a sling load.
This set of skills is very unique with real scenarios played out. We have students lifting fence post to simulated heli logging along with precision placement i.e putting the post into holes in the ground.

This piece of equipment is invaluable for students wishing to get into longline work.

Spidertracks

6th March 2011

Heli-Hire has recently purchased a spidertracks tracking solution. The spider tracking device is a compact, self-contained unit, integrating a GPS receiver and transmitter in one small unit.
It relays real-time three dimensional coordinates of any vehicle, vessel or aircraft from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day to secure servers in New Zealand and Australia, via the Iridium satellite network.

The GPS position points are translated by spidertracks software and overlaid over terrain or satellite maps, showing the speed, altitude, direction and position of one or multiple aircraft and vehicles in real time.

This provides peace of mind for both flight training, when students are completing solo cross-country flights, and for commercial operations.
