Sling Ratings

Sling Ratings have not always been a part of holding a CPL. Today sling training is integrated into the CPL training and once learned, it is a skill which requires practice if not being used regularly.

The Robinson R22 Beta II is a great machine for teaching the skills required for sling work. Adding a load underneath the helicopter changes the dynamics of handling noticeably.

Sling training is like learning to fly again, only the basics remain the same. Sitting behind the load on the ground you take a breath. Slowly, you lift up into a hover above your load. The next step is to lift the load 3 to 5 feet off the ground. Anything but the smallest input on the controls can start the load swinging.

From pilot to pilot, the time it takes to learn this skill varies, and usually takes anything from 10 hours upwards. Eventually there comes a time where the load underneath moves below you in a synchronised form with your helicopter.

Heli Hire Limited can offer training for standard sling loading with 30 foot lines, right through to long line training. What ever your requirement or desire, Heli Hire Limited can cater to your needs.
